About the Artist
Lynn VanNatta
a life dedicated to art

My life as an artist began early in Summit, NJ, where my encouraging parents enrolled me in classes at the Summit Art Association. During my teen years I spent much of my time in the Summit High School art room. Later in life, I studied art at Colorado State University. In 1980, I received a BFA in Art Education from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. After graduating I founded the Crossroads Studio of Fine Arts in Boxford, Massachusetts, which was an in home studio/classroom where I offered arts and crafts to children and adult painting instruction. After relocating to Vermont, I began teaching art classes to special needs adults at A.V.A Gallery in Lebanon, NH. I also offered adult oil painting classes at the ArtisTree in Pomfret, Vermont and during the Covid pandemic I taught Zoom art to special needs adults of Zack's Place of Woodstock, VT.
My art has been exhibited in Jeffersonville, Vermont at the Bryan Memorial Gallery in their juried shows, in which I received awards. My paintings can also be found at the ArtisTree gallery in Pomfret, VT, the Vault Gallery in Springfield, VT, the Southern Vermont Art Center in Manchester, VT and the DaVallia Gallery in Chester VT.
Painting in oils has been my passions since the 1990's. My paintings are expressive, full of life and richness of lush color. My aim is to capture the truth of my subjects in paint. I strive to expressively capture light, shadows, color and content. My painting technique is loose and painterly, especially in my Plein Air paintings. I also paint frequently in my studio, where I work on larger, more complex pieces, some of which are commissions.
My painting style has been influenced by the Cape Ann Painters of Massachusetts. Caleb Stone of Gloucester, MA is my long time mentor. Copley Master, Mark Hayden of Bradford, MA, encouraged my early exploration in oils. His teachings in portrait and still life painting has had a lasting influence.
In my Shattuck Hill studio/gallery in West Windsor, Vermont, I offer private and small group lessons. In my gallery, you can see more of my paintings by appointment.
